Here are a couple of reviews of the Tatami Estilo 3.0 Women’s Cut from two marvelous ladies who are both gi junkies. They offer two different perspectives so you can get a more well-rounded evaluation of this gi.

The gi review world is still dominated by males, and we’re grateful for Julia and Nicole’s passion for BJJ gis. Click here to skip to Julia’s review, and here to Nicole’s.

Gi Reviews Women's War Tribe Gi + Fiercely Feminine Gi

by Sally Arsenault

Hey everybody, my name is Sally Arsenault and I’m a brown belt out of Renzo Gracie Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada. You may have seen some of my other reviews on Breaking Muscle or BJJbySally.com, but if not, check them out. We’ve done a lot of great reviews on womens jiu jitsu gis and other gear.

In preparation for this guest review for GiReviews.net, I received three of the women’s War Tribe gis for review right before I left for Masters Worlds in September. Unfortunately I was injured at the tournament and still haven’t been able to roll in them two months later! Regardless, I wanted to share this preview with  you so you can at least see all of the thought and detail that was put into the construction of these beautiful gis.

War Tribe Gear has had me excited from the very beginning due to their vibrant, yet simple, gi designs. They have released a line of gis designed specifically for women’s bodies and after wearing the gis for months, I can attest to the fact that they have succeeded in producing a comfortable, high-quality product that stands up to the toughest rolls.

Storm Sakura Gi Review by Lisa Pages

I received the Sakura Storm Gi as a Christmas gift after wanting it for the past year or more.

When I first received the Gi in the mail I was so excited. I actually received the black one in an F1 although my husband ordered the white in an F2. But this was no fault of Storm because my husband bought it through a 3rd party company.

Storm Nightshade Gi Review

Storm Nightshade Gi Review

Review of Storm Nightshade by Lauren Johnson

Storm is a fairly well known brand with a reputation for high quality gis. The Nightshade is one of three women’s cut gis by Storm, all of which have been designed with input from Angelica Galvao. It features many of the key design aspects that make all of Storm’s gis so well known, in a well cut women’s gi with feminine style and a moderate amount of ‘bling’.

The other women’s gis are a white version with magenta flowers called the Sakura, and as a black gi version of the Sakura, called the Flor which is a new addition to the Storm women’s collection.  The sizing chart(s) are honestly the most helpful ones I have ever used especially in combination with the ‘highly pre-shrunk’ component of the design.

Da Firma Kimono Company Gi Review

Da Firma Kimono Company Gi Review

Da Firma Kimono Company is a relatively new gi brand on the scene (but who isn’t these days, really?) and like most the other new guys, they’re already putting out some pretty nice looking, well-made gear at an affordable price. I don’t remember how I first encountered them, but I’d “liked” Da Firma on FB for quite a while before the release of this gi.

I had already bought a really nice rashguard that Da Firma Kimono Company released early this summer, and was really stoked to be able to support the brand when they announced that their women’s gi was finally available…for pre-order. It was a pretty quick pre-order to delivery process (maybe 6 weeks?), and Ricardo posted frequent status update on FB, so it when it finally arrived, I was ready, but still satisfied with the time frame.

Confessions of a Gi Addict: Nicole Kirk

Confessions of a Gi Addict: Nicole Kirk

I Heart Gis: My Gi History

A little while back, one of my training partners, upon hearing about this blog thing, suggested I include a gi review section.  A lot of people out there already do gi reviews, some semi-professionally (C’mon Nicole! I’m totally a pro! ~ Brendan), so at first I thought it would be a pretty colossal waste of time.

The more I considered it though, not too many people like me are doing them. Couple that with the fact that my teammates are constantly asking me about whatever fancy-pants piece of cloth I’m donning and then I tell them and they forget and then I end up linking it on Facebook for them and in the end, it just seems simpler to say “Dude, just go read my blog. It’s got links and stuff.”

Helpful links:

You can grab most of the gis mention here at MMA Warehouse, Fushida, Ouano, CTRL Industries, and Killer Bee.

So, without further ado, here’s a semi-detailed account of the gis I’ve owned in the past few years:

Datsusara Hemp Gi

Datsusara Hemp Gi

by Georgette Oden

I love that there are gi companies out there trying to be innovative. I first heard of making gis out of hemp about two years ago. Unfortunately, that company never took off, so I was never able to buy one. Bummer!

But then I heard about Chris Odell’s company Datsusara MMA which markets gear, gis, bags, and clothing made of hemp. Hemp fibers are longer, up to four times stronger, more absorbent and more mildew-resistant than cotton. It’s environmentally friendlier to grow than cotton, requiring no pesticides and producing more fiber per land area. Hemp fabric is also naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial– so I was very excited to give it a try. Chris generously sent me one of their Hemp Combat Gis for this review and I have been wearing the HECK out of this thing ever since.
