Designing a BJJ Gi – Meerkatsu Style

Designing a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu uniform should be an easy task – just check the IBJJF rules, slap on a few patches, post the design online then sit back as you watch the orders flood in. Yeah, that’s ok in theory, but how do you put together a decent gi design that people will pay their hard earned money for and make sure it is something that will carry your brand onward and upward? Illustrator, fightwear designer and blogger Seymour Yang, aka Meerkatsu, takes us through his thought processes when it comes to his own crazy creations!

Gi Review: War Tribe Gear

Summary

War Tribe has consistently released solid and innovative products for the jiu-jitsu gear market.  I recently had a chance to review their Hydrogen gi, an ultra light weight addition to the War Tribe lineup.  Having reviewed 3 other War Tribe gis, all standard weight products, I was curious to see how this gi stacked up, was it of similar high quality to its heavier counterparts?

Making a Splash: 5 Brands to Keep an Eye on in 2018

Making a Splash 5 Brands to Keep an eye on in 2017

We published this post back in 2012 and, five years later, we’re updating it to become more relevant with the times.

Many gi companies have come and gone (in fact, some gis that have been featured and reviewed here may no longer be around) while some have stayed along for the ride. Keeping up with who are still around, who have closed shop and who are starting out every single day is still huge work and, surprisingly, still impossible for us to keep up.

An Interview with BJJ Fighter Sa’idah Zeinab Durkee

An Interview with BJJ Fighter Saidah Zeinab Durkee

We had the chance to interview one of Elite Sports‘ team members, BJJ fighter Sa’idah Zeinab Durkee.

Sa’idah grew up and was the only American, along with her sister, in the area. She speaks English, Arabic and some French. She had been active in sports since she was young and did gymnastics, horseback riding, taekwondo, swimming, snowboarding and soccer.

She started BJJ training in March 2015 and got her blue belt in August 2016, training under Abmar Barbosa and Isaac July Jr. in Washington, DC. A month and a half after claiming her belt, she competed and won gold in her division at the IBJJF No-Gi Pan Ams. She continues training 6 to 7 days a week to reach her ultimate goal of becoming a World Champion.
