Interview with the minds behind Deus Fight Co.

I am super pumped to be able to share with you guys a quick interview that I did with Deus Fight Co. Being a man that shares their beliefs, I was really interested to hear more about how they started the company, their background, and the MASSIVE amount of charity work that they do.

1. Tell us a bit about your background with martial arts.

There are two of us who started the brand, Cedric is the Black Belt on the team. He has his own academy. It's Gracie Gym and is located Irvine California. Not to be confused with Gracie Barra please 🙂 I met Cedric, because my 3 kids trained with him. My older son is almost 16 and has been with him since he was 9. Well, one day Cedric asked me to stop watching and get involved, which I did. He said I was amazing, mostly because I had studied for so long on the bench. It's been over a year and has changed my life. In turn, I asked him to also get involved off the mat and that's how we started DeuS Fight.

2. With the online BJJ/MMA marketplace becoming increasingly saturated, what made you want to start Deus Fightwear?

Through our experiences at our Gym and many relationships in the BJJ world, we met a number of incredible people. Most were Christian's like us. They were humble about their faith, though. So we envisioned a humble Christian brand that stood for something off the mat through the works they did and equally stood for something on the mat, because training, competing, and tapping is such a reflection on the character of the people we knew and rolled with all the time.

3. What do you feel makes Deus different from every other online retailer out there right now?

There are some brands that develop great product, there are some that do positive things, and there are some that do both. We also have that, but added a 3rd dimension. We have a ministry. When people buy our products they are reminded, inspired ,and it comes full circle. That's how we differentiate. We are not for everyone, but for those who are Faith minded, they really get it.

4. You support a LOT of different organizations who are doing great work both on the mat and off, which is awesome. Tell us more about them and why you support them!

Deus means God in Latin and Portuguese. So the essence of the brand is the Fight. And we always ask the question- what are we fighting for. Many times it's for others. There's no better way to do that, than to get involved. We don't want to be known as the guys who put cool quotes on their Gi's. We want to be known as the company that lives out what the say both on and off the mat. BJJ teaches key life skills like discipline, hard work, and integrity. We want to model that. Christ teaches humility, perseverance, faith, love, etc… and we want to model that, too. So, whether we are trying to help kids in the Favela's of Brazil through our Favela Kids Project, or trying to help wrestling at schools through fund raisers, or by doing anti-bully seminars at schools, or by showing up at cancer fund raisers, or working with the disabled, etc…. All of these things embody the struggle people Fight through. The Deus Fight! And this journey has allowed us to participate and support so many good causes and people. We are humbled and blessed by it.

5. If there's anything else you'd like to share about , please do!

We are entering a very competitive market place. We don't have to be the shoyoroll collection in your closest, but our product is great quality. And people who buy are products are making a real difference. Most of our proceeds are going to our causes, plus you have an opportunity to witness to others. That's unique and amazing! So at least while you search through the Gi's to find which one to roll in that day, realize that at least one of them lives on through your decision to get it. That's powerful.
