Judo was initially created as a mental, moral and physical pedagogy in Japan and was categorized as a modern martial art. However, it has evolved over the years into an Olympic and combat sport. The main aim of Judo is to throw, takedown, subdue or immobilize an opponent to the ground forcing them to submit with a choke or joint lock. Weapons, strikes, and thrust by feet and hands are also allowed in Judo but only when pre-arranged and are prohibited in competitions and when practicing.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu commonly known as BJJ is a martial art focused on ground fighting and grappling with intentions of controlling one’s opponent using techniques that subdue him or her into submission. It is a gentle art as even the weakest of people can win by using submissions (locks, chokes) and leverage to defend themselves against a stronger opponent.
The popularity of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) has seen a steady rise over the past few years due in part to a growing audience of mixed martial arts (MMA) viewers.
While it looks like a scary and intimidating sport, especially for beginners, this form of martial arts actually takes pride in being a gentle art. The beauty of this practice is that even a smaller person can take down a much bigger person, with the help of the right strategies such as using leverage and submissions.
Pretty much anyone can start training in BJJ and there are a lot of gyms and coaches out there offering this kind of training.
Nothing beats learning from the pros so, here at GiReviews.net, we take the time to interview and learn more from those who have already achieved much in their careers.

GiReviews.Net: Tell us a bit about your background with martial arts.
Alex: My background in martial arts I think is pretty much how every kid growing up in the 80s got a start and that is through the magic of the legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme. If you asked me what the hardest decision I could make at the age of 3-7 is I’m pretty sure my response would have been whether or not I wanted an outfit when I became a ninja.Continue reading

Sa’idah grew up and was the only American, along with her sister, in the area. She speaks English, Arabic and some French. She had been active in sports since she was young and did gymnastics, horseback riding, taekwondo, swimming, snowboarding and soccer.
She started BJJ training in March 2015 and got her blue belt in August 2016, training under Abmar Barbosa and Isaac July Jr. in Washington, DC. A month and a half after claiming her belt, she competed and won gold in her division at the IBJJF No-Gi Pan Ams. She continues training 6 to 7 days a week to reach her ultimate goal of becoming a World Champion.
We are very excited to have Sal, and his company, Habrok Sports with us today to have a bit of a chat about his vision, drive and passion for starting a new BJJ brand. We bounce around a bit, but I hope his message comes across loud and clear. The guy has a heart of gold and a real passion for BJJ and the manufacturing business.

I needed a standby gi for when my “favorite” gis were dirty, wet, both, or in the wash. Of course I took to the internet and on one of the main grappling forums, a poster had started a discussion about the high quality gis being sent out by Padilla & Sons. He mentioned the awesome pricing for a gi of this quality while also bringing up the outstanding customer service he had received. He wrote how he had some questions about his gi, called the number, and basically Mrs. Padilla answered. He said she hooked him up and solved his issues quickly. So I checked them out.
