Fushida Kimonos is a very popular gi company based out of Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada). Originally specializing in judo gis, Fushida Kimonos was founded by Christo van Rooyen about six years ago (in 2006). Fushida spent about two years in development before making their first gi, but in the end, it was worth it. Aesopian’s 2011 gi survey cited Fushida Kimonos as the Top Brand of 2011.
Their gis really are fantastic. Their Comp GS gi offers a 450 gram pearl weave top with solid training pants made from 12oz cotton and a pearl weave gusset (similar to what Shoyoroll has done in the past). Really a fantastic and sharp looking gi (having seen them in person before).
Another awesome thing is that they’re very reasonably priced. Fushida Kimonos really ranks highly just by comparison, but when you add in price, it really blows away competition (only gi in the top 6 under $130).
My rating of the GUMA Membership from Shoyoroll just went from a 7/10 to an 11/10. Let me show you why:
The Shoyoroll 1751 gi is going to be the most limited gi that Shoyoroll has made since the Yin and the Yang (<200 pieces). The Jacket will be 450gram pearl weave and the pants will be 10oz. cotton. So the top seems to be pretty standard for SYR’s pearl weaves and the pants will be a bit lighter than the Shoyoroll Americana and Shoyoroll Compadre pants.
So you may ask, Why are you so excited over a white gi with blue (and grey, according to SYR) contrast stitching?
The Kingz Rip Stop BJJ Gi is made of cotton rip stop material (just the jacketis, actually). It’s really an amazing gi for hot weather training. It’s very light weight (only slightly heavier than the Kingz 420 Light Gi). The cotton ripstop is already preshrunk so it shouldn’t shrink more than 5%.
The jacket features the typical Kingz shoulder patches and lapel patch, as well as the seam taping inside the cuff and lapel. There is also logo taping along the bottom of the skirt. The rubber lapel is very strong and will not bend when subjected to extreme heat (via washer or dryer).Get your very own Kingz basic gi at Amazon
The Kingz 550 Comp BJJ Gi is a pearl weave style gi jacket & 11oz cotton pants combo. It has some cool flair added, but nothing too flashy . It is a bit flashier than my Ronin Insignia, but only ever so slightly. It fit me different than any other gi I own (more on that below!).
My Kingz 550 Comp BJJ Gi came from Fighter’s Market. I spoke with Bruno ahead of time via e-mail about the various gis they sell, and also about them offering their own brand of BJJ gis.
The first thing I noticed is that the Kingz 550 Comp BJJ Gi fit me a bit differently and I e-mailed Bruno and he replied right away(again, more on that below!). Fighter’s Market offers really good customer service and I would definitely suggest that you send me or Bruno an e-mail (or just post below!) if you have any questions about the gi.Purchase your Kingz gis from Amazon

A lot of people are probably going to scoff at this deal when they first see it. But if you do the math, it’s really not that bad.
Shoyoroll GUMA Reserve Membership price: 379
Minus cost of the gi: 165 (estimated cost based on batch 11 price)
Minus cost of two t-shirts: 50
Minus cost of sweatshirt: 50
Minus cost of gear bag and patches: 50
Total remaining: $64
Now, let’s say you are also going to buy two SYR gis and a rashguard during the next calendar year. The 10% discount will save you 10% of $380 (estimated cost for two gis and a rashguard), giving you another $38 in savings.
Total cost of Shoyoroll GUMA Reserve Membership: $26
The great equalizer is that all of these gis are going to be super rare and valuable and to gi collectors, worth quite a bit. If for some reason, you aren’t happy with the Shoyoroll GUMA Reserve Membership, you can always sell some of the rare stuff and make your money back.
Frankly, I think it sounds like a really cool concept and Shoyoroll is the first to try it, so I’ll definitely be grabbing a Shoyoroll GUMA Reserve Membership on December 24th.
Predator is an English brand who is under the umbrella of Black Eagle Fight Company.
Their owner, Steve Turner, is really awesome and somebody whom we have dealt with personally. He is very accessible via Facebook and their brand is storming onto the scene.
They have an awesome line of spats, rashguards, shorts, and some really cool, embroidered, brazilian jiu jitsu gis.
The Black Eagle Predator is a pretty solid Pearl Weave that offers contrast stitching and some top notch embroidery and is a great overall training and competition gi.Choose among the best pearl gis on HypnotikContinue reading
Naja, the makers of the Naja Extreme Gold Kimono, are based out of Brazil and I saw them in a few magazines before I ever considered buying one. Not many people here in the United States have a Naja kimono either, so that was cool.
Because most everybody who owns a Naja lives in Brazil, I had no idea what to think. Thankfully, I didn’t make a mistake with my purchase. Naja is available through Budovideos.com for a pretty reasonable price considering it is one of the few brands still made in Brazil.
For a gold weave gi, the Naja Extreme Gold Kimono is pretty light. It’s built just as solid as my Koral and the patches are big, but clean. The collar is thinner than my Subculture Gold weave, which isn’t to my taste, so I assume the Silver Ultra Light’s collar is extremely thin. The gi comes in all the traditional colors, including camouflage, which is pretty popular here in the U.S.Choose among the best gold weave gis at Amazon!
The Naja Extreme Silver Ultra Light gi is a fairly decent light weight gi. You can find Naja at more and more companies, but it may be difficult to find them in stock. As with other light weight gis, this one definitely earns its name. Even though it’s listed as pre-shrunk, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to shrink it over time. Most people contend that the gi is definitely one of the softest gis that it they own and it’s very comfortable to roll and train in.Find lightweight BJJ gis at Amazon
Naja Extreme isn’t as solid as some of the top brands like Koral and the older Atamas (new ones aren’t that great). The collar is made out of rubber, not foam. The pants are fairly thin, as to be expected in a light weight gi, and the Naja Silver Ultra Light has the traditional drawstring. Priced similar to Vulkan light weight gis, the Naja Silver Ultra Light seems to be competitive with the Vulkan.
Despite being listed as pre-shrunk, the Naja Silver Ultra Light can be shrunk down a bit.
UPDATE (Jan 9, 2017): This gi is no longer available.Shop for the best BJJ gis on Hypnotik
Break Point FC are a well known as one of the flashiest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi companies. They have tried to be different from everything else on the market and still continue to be a high quality product. The flashy design has definitely made a lot of people fans of their brand (myself included).
They’ve been making gis since 2007 and have multiple black belts working for them. They take pride in the fact that, in their company, everybody trains. The time Break Point FC spent developing their gi (2 years) really made a difference to them because people were able to enjoy their gi from the first batch.
They’ve been strong supporters of the Texas Brazilian Jiu Jitsu scene, despite being from California and have done a number of things to support Texas BJJ, including designing a custom BJJ Gi to help fund cleanup and restoration after the BP Oil Spill.
Break Point FC continues to make ‘blinged out’ gis such as the RVRSL and the Acai.

The Ronin Brand Insignia is a high quality Pearl Weave that offers a very cool, clean look, but some very understated and classy added flair.
My Ronin Brand Insignia came from Kinji San Martial Arts in Brooklyn, NY. I had the great opportunity to speak with Doug from Kinji San for a while on the phone about the various gis that they carry, especially the Ronin Brand Insignia and I definitely suggest that if you live in New York, you get there right away, and if you don’t, give Doug a call because his customer service is top notch!Shop for more awesome pearl weave gis at Hypnotik
