Tatami Estilo Gi Reviews
**Contributor Reviews are located in the comments section at the bottom**
The Tatami Estilo is a good training gi for people who like a bit of style in their gi as well.
They feature some pretty awesome contrast stitching and have often been compared to having a look as cool as Shoyoroll gis, but being more widely available, they are much cheaper (since you can get them any time).
The jacket is 500g (roughly 1lb) and a single piece of pearl weave material. The collar is not your normal cottom twill collar, but instead made of canvas, thus increasing its durability.
Like I said, every kimono has contrast stitching and they have a lot of patches if you’re into that (like me). There is also embroidery on both arms and on the left leg, the feature taping on the inside oft he lapel and the cuffs.
The pants are 14oz (almost 1lb as well) and made of canvas. The knees are double reinforced and the waist has 4 drawstring loops (not too many like those that have 6, but definitely better than 2!!).

Pros:
Very nice contrast-coloured styling
Comfortable but strong pearlweave jacket
Excellent cut and fit (for me)
Not too pricey for what you get (£72 +pp)
Quality materials (eg canvas collar, triple stitching, double taped reinforcements)
Cons:
On the tad heavy side (1.87Kg for an A1, Zero g is 1.4Kg for an A1)
Trousers a quick thick and get a bit hot (canvas cotton)
Redesigned patch and logo is better but still too fussy imo.
Special thanks to Seymour of Meerkatsu for the review.

If I were to design a gi for the middle market, it would be very close to the Estilo Premier. This gi is a nice blend of style, function, quality and price. I’ve been watching the evolution of the Tatami product line, and after experiencing great customer service from Gareth and Lee, it’s evident that this company listens to their customers and takes their suggestions seriously. I’m guessing Tatami Fightwear will be around for a while.
I’m excited to roll in it and see how it treats me on the mat.
The Estilo costs £72.00 (about $115). I think that’s a great price for what you get. Unfortunately, shipping to the U.S. bumps it up into the $150 range, which puts it in competition with a lot of other great gis for U.S buyers. With that in mind, it becomes a matter of preference. If you really like the way the Estilo looks, get it. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Of all the gi’s i own, Fuji, Gameness, Atama, Koral, Brazilian Combat, this gi is by far the best gi ever… perfect cut, excellent excellent excellent quality, yes 3 excellents, excellent look and feel. I’m 5’8″ 165lbs and all the gis i owned are either too big or too small, this gi fits perfectly after two hot wash and heat dry. Now will only wash cold and hang dry. I LOVE THIS GI. Finally, i found that fits JUST RIGHT!!!

Tatami Kimonos are SUPER nice! They are thin, lightweight, and practically bulletproof!!(not really though). The cut is weird at first but once you get rolling it’s super comfortable and really easy to use against your opponent. I don’t see many people wearing them so I was afraid to buy one not knowing what I would get. A gamble that paid off! For the price, I think this is THE BEST kimono on the market!
I recently purchased a blue estilo 2.0. I ordered it from budovideos after they offered a coupon during the recent ADCC. The look of the gi is fantastic. The pants are super comfortable and the draw string is so much easier to use the the twil drawstrings on my other gi pants. The gi is pretty comfortable overall but it could be a little smaller. Even after shrinking it I still like the fit of my fuji gi more. The patches cause the gi to basically bulge in certain spots and the gi top is a bit long for me. I’m 5’9/5’10 and 170lbs.
my gi is an A2 btw.
Hey Trevor! Thanks so much for taking the time to add your review! Weird that it’s baggy on your because on their size chart, you are right between an a2 and a3. What other gis do you own?
So after having two BreakPoints and never really digging them I got a Tatami Estillo 3.0 in Navy from my new gym. It is lightyears ahead of my BreakPoints.
The fit is slimmer and has that really nice tailored look to it. The sleeves are gapping wide and fit me perfect. I bought an A3 and am 5’10″ 195lbs.
The Navy Estillo I got is just dead sexy. And the patches are very easy to take off. In fact the Navy Estillo looks just like the Shoyoroll Yank without the patches.
These pants are amazing. I personally love the stretchy rope string and the pants are super comfortable. I want to buy another pair just to lounge around the house in. The legs aren’t disgustingly baggy either like my BreakPoint FCs.
I had planned on having a Shoyoroll as my next gi, but with having to prepay for them months in advance and with their recent quality issues and GUMA fiasco I really don’t want to support a company like that. I’m very happy my gym carries these gis so I could check them out in person before I bought.
Man! What gym are you at that carries Tatami gis? Presumably in the UK?
Also, there was a picture floating around a while back with a navy estilo and yank side by side. Some of the stitching is a bit different, but almost identical from far away (without the patches).
The Terere is an estilo base, and I love it.
I’m just about to pull the trigger on this gi as I’ve heard many great things about them. I’m 5’10 inches tall, weigh around 160 lbs (fluctuate 3-5 lbs), and I have a slim/athletic build (somewhat broad shoulders/wide back and slim waist). I’m hoping this gi will provide the fitted look that I’m looking for. Can anyone give me any confirmation on the size for me, please? Ty in advance!
A2 for sure Sean!
TY, brotha. Happy rolling =]
